Dental Implants

Dental implants (implants) are titanium rods that are implanted into the jawbone in place of the lost teeth and serve as a dental root.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a fixed prosthesis. It can be implanted on an outpatient basis and under local anesthesia in the jaw like an artificial root. Usually, implants are highly biocompatible, mechanically very elastic, stable and extremely durable. To summarize, implants provide optimal chewing comfort and almost create the feeling of natural teeth.

What is the implantation procedure?

Implantation is a surgical procedure that in most cases is performed under local anesthesia. In terms of complexity and patient comfort, the postoperative period is often easier than a conventional tooth extraction. In some cases, there may be an indication for surgery under general anesthesia.

After the surface of the wound has healed, it takes about 7-10 days, and the deep healing phase begins. This can vary depending on the quality of the bone and the location of the implant. Our dental orthodontics specialists estimate this time for the upper jaw 4-6 months and the lower jaw 3-4 months. During this period, patients receive a temporary prosthesis.

The Advantages of the Technique

Dental implantation has a number of advantages, of which any competing technique has only a part.

Minimal trauma. When installing implants, you do not need to grind and use adjacent healthy teeth as supports, and dentures do not harm the gums.

Physiology. The patient quickly gets used to the dentures and ceases to notice them.

Aesthetics. Dentures are similar to natural teeth and have no visible attachments.

Reliable fixation. The design can withstand full chewing loads without the risk of detachment.

Preservation of the volume of bone tissue. After the loss of a tooth, the bone gradually atrophies: the loss is 40-60% in the first three years and continues afterwards. Thanks to implants, chewing loads on the jaw area are resumed, and the atrophic process stops.

Long service life. A tooth implant can be used without replacement for 10 or even more years.

Easy maintenance. Oral hygiene rules are the same as for natural teeth.

Preparation for Implantation

After the dentist-surgeon together with the patient decide to place a dental implant, the preparation for prosthetics begins. First of all, the doctor collects data on the state of the oral cavity and, based on them, draws up an operation plan. Preoperative diagnostics performed at a high level includes:

general and biochemical blood test;

X-ray;

tomographic examination.

Based on the results of the examination, the surgeon can seek help from other specialists of the clinic: in various situations, the intervention of a periodontist and orthopedist is required before installing a dental implant. The services of a dentist-therapist are necessary in any case. Its task is to sanitize the oral cavity:

removal of dental plaque;

caries treatment;

replacement of old fillings;

teaching the patient correct hygiene;

complex anti-inflammatory and antibacterial therapy 1 day before surgery.

How To Properly Care For Dental Implants?

As with your real natural teeth, proper oral and dental care along with toothpaste, dental floss and proper practice is important.

In addition, it is recommended to periodically carry out professional cleaning and fluoridation of the tee. We can arrange a combination for this with other treatments during your stay here in Turkey.
