Gastroplasty is a surgical procedure in which the stomach is folded and sutured without making an incision in the stomach, thus the size of the stomach is reduced. This application is considered as a restrictive application because the patient can take a limited amount of food.
Gastroplasty, also called vertical banded gastroplasty or gastric stapling, is developed for morbid obese people. It is known that patients with a body mass index above 35 and defined as morbidly obese have a high risk of diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, liver disease and various syndromes and disorders. This application is used to reduce the serious medical problems experienced by morbidly obese individuals.
